Are you wondering if we can restore a roof with solar panels? The simple answer is yes! In fact, it’s one the most frequently asked questions we get asked by homeowners. We explain more below. Can you restore a roof that has solar panels? When it comes to restoring a roof the has solar panels, there are two options. 1. Have them removed prior to the work and re-installed once the roof restoration is complete. 2. Have them covered with plastic and taped up. The roof is then restored but the area under the solar panels is not painted. We find the second option is the most common. Restoring a Roof with Solar Panels When our technicians restore a roof that has solar panels it doesn’t change the price. In terms of the process, the only other task we have to complete is cover up the panels with plastic prior to applying any coatings. IMPORTANT NOTE : JMZ Roof Restorations will not remove the panels prior to a restoration. If you wish to have them removed, you will need to contact an electrician or solar installation company. As part of our tile roof restoration process, our roofing professionals will replace broken, chipped or cracked tiles, but did you know we always opt for second-hand roof tiles? We are often asked why, and in this blog we reveal the main reasons. 2 Reasons JMZ Uses Second-Hand Roof Tiles During Restorations Reusing roof tiles can have many benefits, including that it puts old roof tiles that are still in great condition to good use, and stops them from ending up in landfill. Typically, if you only have a small number of tiles to replace, it will also be more affordable to use second-hand roof tiles than forking out for new ones. But that’s only the beginning. In addition to being better for the planet – and your wallet! – here are the two main reasons that JMZ Roof Restorations reuses roof tiles: 1. Difficult to match existing tiles Roof tile manufacturing companies continually change their profiles/shape of tiles over the years. That means you may actually have great difficulty finding new ones that match your existing tiles, depending on the age of the property. 2. Consistency Second-hand roof tiles are also used to ensure the gloss level is uniform across the roof. New tiles are generally glazed and can sometimes cause a patchy appearance when restoring a roof. Using second-hand tiles means we can often achieve a much better (more consistent) finish across the entire roof.
